Best Artist Mindset

The Coolest Wrist Band/Pencil Case
So a few things come to mind when I think of an artist. To me its someone who just "is an artist." I feel it doesn't always have to do with technical skill, but someone who just does art for their own sake. I've noticed during drawing I don't really get emotional highs and lows anymore, but more of a subtle comforting feeling. And It's been like that after the first two years getting introduced to art. Drawing requires you to do something over and over again steadily.

When I look at sustaining behaviors I don't see someone who is "on" all the time, I see someone who is consistent with their practices. Someone who has made their hobby a life style. Its obvious we live in a world that teaches us to have a low attention span, but I feel anyone with a great skill must be able to overcome this. Drawing can be as frustrating as anything else, but there should be a familiarity in it over time. If you wake up and have nothing to do, then you will always have your drawing/painting. This is what it is for me, its become just what I do. Some issue, not all, in drawing will auto correct over time. Never get angry or frustrated, just acknowledge a mistake and move on. Don't go down a thought of negativity.

The easiest way out of a negative thought loop would be to acknowledge when you are doing it. I know that's easier said than done. There are a few things that helped me personally. Meditation was very helpful. To do this, first you clear your thoughts, and when your mind inevitably wanders gradually bring focus back to neutral again. Its basically practicing to concentrate on a task. Something that helps is to turn off the Internet, like literally unplug it. And you will be amazed at how you sometimes unconsciously go online and look at junk news that wastes time.

One reason why I made an artist pencil case wrist band to begin with was to improve my focus. I wanted it primarily as something to use constructively but also fits into my life. It was my nerd fantasy to have something like an arm-adillo. Something with different functions, but also something that was soft enough that it wouldn't scratch up my wrist. The armadillo artist bag band had everything covered in every way. Its part of my art supplies as I get up to go draw at a cafe, or if I go out to draw in nature. Its my way of staying focused. I never forget my art supplies in any situation. Its an artist bag for someone who is living in a world full of distraction. We are Artists, and that's what we do. We focus on our craft. :D  Buy One Here
